Stories unveils to us the world full of different characters, places, moments between the characters in those places, the words spoken and even the ones unspoken. Bollywood does master not just presenting these amazing stories in the most delightful and engaging way but it also takes us on a ride with all its charm of head turning looks, glamorous clothing, jewelry, overall styling and what not. “Trend setter” is what some of the great movies with iconic characters give us. By the very nature of trends, they come and they go but there are sure a few amazing looks or outfits or fashion trends that stayed and became a regular fit.

                 Sarees and salwar suits have been an integral part of an Indian wardrobe. However, with westernization making its hold stronger everyday, jeans, skirts and shorts are what girls prefer to wear and still is an everyday ensemble. But there have been a few super hit movies that made a breakthrough in the fashion game of the country and itched itself on our choice of wear so much so that is has become a basic go to look for an everyday rush/comfort wear.

                 Will we ever forget that epic scene from the movie “Jab We Met”, Geet’s introductory scene as she catches the train. Classic white shirt, blue denim and a vibrant Phulkari dupatta/stole, accessorized with jhumkas and bangles is never going to go out of fashion. The Indo-Western fusion has never been done this better. The oversized graphic T-shirt with a fabulous Patiala pyjama is as iconic as Rabina Tandon’s yellow saree in “Tip Tip Barsa Paani….” song. Also, those amazing songs in the voice of Shreya Ghoshal in the movie where Kareena wears Chikkankari lucknowi kurta with a jeans, can that ever be not working! The fusion look is here to stay and I being a fan girl will never be able to put a time for this to go out of fashion.

                      This Indian girl loves sarees like billion others. The thing to think about is when did this apparel became not just for our mothers and aunts but also for us. Sushmita Sen with her eternal grace in “Main Hoon Na”, redefined saree. The minimalist look with a saree for teaching, well, that worked for us. Who wouldn’t love to drape a lightweight saree, style up minimal and slay the work look. With many businesses growing on Instagram, it has become evident that the current women workforce are open to wearing sarees to work. There are businesses that makes sarees having this elegant, minimalistic look and these enterprises are flourishing. Soft, light weight comfortable saree is a power dress and we love it. After all, who wouldn’t love to look like Sushmita Sen everyday at work.

                  The ultimate diva of Bollywood, Deepika Padukone has owned the fashion game for over a decade now. From various global film fests, prestigious red carpet appearances to many a glamorous looks in her movies she has rocked it all. It is intriguing that what became a revolutionary look, the one that has completely changed how girls dress in India now, is rather a simple one. The “kurta and leggings” look, the basic, the one that stayed and will stay for many a more decades. The vibrant desi printed kurtas with complimenting, comfortable leggings owning the silver screen in the movie “Love Aaj Kal” changed how the Indian girls dress. The way Deepika glamourized this desi look of kurta and made it simpler with a flexible, comfortable leggings which completes the look without the load of wearing a dupatta is everything an Indian girl needed. Like Deepika in the Delhi metro, looking fabulous in those amazing kurtas in the movie, today one will spot a thousand like her in the metros going to college, work and where not. Deepika’s on screen looks rather took a more impactful turn with her “boss lady”, “ power dressing” avatar in the movie “Piku”. Those earthy toned cotton kurtas, complimenting stoles, cotton palazzos and huge leather handbag, kohled eyes is everything stunning we want in our work look. That desi dress is for all to unleash the boss lady in them, to seize the day, to feel as if they are wearing their ethnicity up their sleeves as they start the marathon and wins. That’s what fashion is about, the one that stays and creates a space for itself in everyone’s life.

                    Well for now, this Bollywood fan is drooling over the MET GALA looks of the Hollywood celebrities and waiting eagerly for the next Bollywood fashion game. I think the current summer season is perfect to try those “Gehraiyyan” looks of Ananya Pandey and Deepika Padukone. What do you think?
